Writing on the Gridiron

High School Football began this week. Yeah! I love this time of year. I get to spend some quality time with my son, at least in the car on the way to and from the games. At the games it’s all about being with your friends and cheering on the team (my voice usually recovers a day or two later). Of course, everything is much more fun when you have a nationally ranked football team to follow. Go Orange Lutheran!!!

Today however, I feel like I have been right there at practice with the players. I have done the drills, the calisthenics, the lifting and I’m drained. Editing is like holding back the offensive line on 1st and goal. The current segue of revision is between action scenes. It’s a crucial discovery and processing scene for my main character and because it’s so important, I want to be sure I get it right. I think I could revise this section a million times and still find something else to change. And the worst part…I’m still in the first quarter.

Bring me some Gatorade!
